Where the heck do I get a shopping cart?
Good question. You will have to get your own cart, but it’s not as difficult as you think. Often if you explain to cart owners that this is for charity and you promise to return the cart, they will let you borrow one. You can also often find one at a junk yard, recycling center and stores often have a few lying around that they are looking to retire or rusting away outside. You might be surprised how easy this can. We do not encourage stealing and accept no responsibility for your cart. There are also come shopping carts in the community that are abandoned and seeking a good home. Drive around until you find one. Clean it up and make it feel special!
What do we wear?

Whatever the heck you want or . . . don’t want, but we encourage creativity. For additional ideas we recommend checking out this link HERE or just plain Googling: Idiotarod Images.

What is the Route? None of your business! Na, Just kidding. . .
The race will officially begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 23 at the Wedge Brewery. The route will be revealed in detail shortly in a nice little map.

Can I Volunteer? Cool events like these always need volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering for the event or would like to be a judge or help do lots of cool stuff drop us an email at ashevilleidiotarod@gmail.com

Why am I doing this?
Honestly, we have no idea. After all who in their right mind would dress up like complete idiots so they could push a shopping cart for 5 kilometers for a good cause. We’re guessing it’s the good cause part combined with idea of having fun while wearing wigs, togas, giant snail costumes or gratuitous amounts of spandex in public for hours on end, but who knows. Apparently scientists have done studies, but they didn’t come up with much. So in order to help the process we included that question on our registration form so we could better inform our general public (and scientists) in next years race.

What is this going to cost me?
Not much – your dignity and about $15 a person ($75 per team). Unless you wait until after November 16 at which time it will cost you $20 a person ($100 per team).

Can we sign up on the day of the race?
You betcha!

Do we have to dress up and decorate the cart? No, but it’s very strongly encouraged. After all we wouldn’t want you to feel left out.

Do we win anything?
Aside from establishing a totally new level of comfort, bragging rites and the opportunity to show off your guns in spandex? YES! We have over $2000.00 in prizes for the winners including beer and pizza. Ladies and Gentleman . . . click HERE to see a list of the awards.

What is The 1 Day Project? The 1 Day Project is a new local community based non-profit organization. The 12 Day Project helps structure and promote up to hundreds of community and non-profit based projects on one weekend every month. What it is asking is that everyone gives back at least one day a month to the community. In return, those that give at least 6 hours or more of their time and skill set will receive a 30 day benefit card that will provide them with discounts at 100s of local stores in the Western North Carolina area. This is done in an effort to help stimulate and promote the local economy, develop public awareness and cultivate a stronger sense of community. There is also a barter program and a free-cycle program associated with the site.
