I just wanted to welcome you all to The Black Mountain Monster 12/24 Hour Individual and Team Relay! We are so excited about this weekend!

Set up your home base in our beautiful wooded tent city as you prepare to take on this dynamic and exciting course. You’ll be surrounded by live music through out the day and a warm bonfire thru the night as teams and individuals compete over the course of 12 and 24 hours. The course is so dynamic one participant joked that the race director must have entered a This fun event, also known as “The Monster” and part of “Race for Awesomeness” Series rotates to raise fund for different charities both locally and internationally. There will be divisions including: 12 & 24 individual Male; 12 & 24 Individual Female, 12 & 24 Hour Male Team, Female team and Co-ed Team. There is an individual night option as well. The course is a combination of wide grassy trails, simple wooded single track, asphalt (.5 miles), fields and an occasional dirt road. It is a very easy course that is entirely on flat ground or soft rolling hills. There are two aid stations with fruit, vaseline, chicken broth, water, Gatorade both on route. Free pizza will be available that evening for the runners. Camping is free and lodging is available.

Please prepare yourself appropriately. We will have aid stations both at the beginning and in the middle of the course with pot-o-johns, water, gatorade and snacks to help you stay hydrated. We will also be serving pizza around 7pm to everyone Saturday evening so you can just grab it and go. :)
Sign-in and late registration will begin at 7:30 am on Saturday and will be open until 9:40am. If you are competing in the night event please check in no later than 9:30pm.
In an effort to be more green we do not have runner’s packets, but for those that signed up in time (last Friday) we do have a guaranteed long sleeve tech shirts for you. :) We grabbed some extras with the expectation of additional teams so hopefully we’ll get everyone covered. We apologize in advance if we fall short. We waited until the last minute and actually are having them expedited so that we had as close to the number as possible.
As part of the Race for Awesomeness series we consistently try to give back in as many ways as we can. So as part of your registration please remember to bring food for MANNA. It’s really important to us. We only ask for 2 cans each, but if you can bring 5 or more we would love you forever. . . and ever. :)
Massage therapy will be available on site free of charge.
If you are interested in camping the field will officially be open by Friday at 4:00pm for you to set up and even scout out the course. For those of you that were here the course will be the same as last year’s. We liked that one enough to do it twice.
We also have some really great bands and individual artists who are going to be there that we hope you enjoy. :)
If you have any questions you can send us an email at bmmonster24 @gmail.com.   I also wanted to let everyone know that you can use our facebook event page to post for any needs i.e. ride shares, needing or wanting additional runners for your team, talk about how pumped you are to be doing this event, etc. you know – the usual. ;) Here is a link to the page in case you are interested: http://www.facebook.com/kathrynannehild#!/event.php?eid=223034621044441

Monster 12/24 Relay will once again take place on Montreat College’s beautiful Black Mountain Campus. Teams and individuals will compete for 12 and 24 hours on a mostly flat and soft wooded 3-mile course that winds over and around the Tomahawk Branch River in an area nestled between subtle hills and historic buildings.

Among a half dozen significant structures is the 24,400 square foot “Manor House,” built in 1920 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally the summer home of electrical industrialist F. S. Terry, the Manor House will be the back drop to the event. Camping, 10 hours of live music, yoga, seminars, all night movies (indoors) and a bonfire will compliment the environment as runners compete in a variety of divisions for 12 and 24 hours.

All proceeds will go to The Red Cross, The One Day Project and Montreat’s Cross Country Summer Camp Program.

Update:

All runners are welcome to begin camping out on site starting at 4:00pm on Friday, June 3.  As long as the weather is good, the course will be remeasured for certainty and marked by no later than Thursday evening (maybe afternoon) and you are more than welcome to come and run it (It’s especially nice to run at dusk).

Night Run: Due to popular demand we have opened up the option for 12 hour participants to run from 10pm to 10am. If you are interested in this option please let us know.

Massage Therapy will be available on site for free in 15 minute increments.
